About our Curriculum
Math: For math Kindergarten follows the EngageNY math curriculum. This year we will learn about numbers, shapes, measurement addition and subtraction. We use many different manipulatives in our classrooms to ensure math is a hands on learning experience. You can find the EngageNY Modules that we follow in class here:

Reading: For reading Kindergarten follows the Teachers College Readers Workshop. Over the course of the year, our students will learn how to track print, read sight words and read leveled books up to level D. Students will be able to identify the cover of a book, the characters, the setting, the author and the illustrator. Further, we will work on their reading comprehension and answering questions about stories.
Writing: Kindergarten also used the Teachers College Writers Workshop. During writing our students will learn how to write narrative stories, all about books and how-to books. Students will learn to label the pictures in their writing and eventually write sentences that match our writing.
Phonics: For our phonics program, Kindergarten uses FUNdations. This is a program which teaches students letter sound recognition. Students will learn all the sounds letters make and how to properly write all the letters in the alphabet. We will work hard to ensure students are able to recognize all letters and correctly match the letters with their according sound.
Science: In science we will be learning about animals, trees, motion and materials. We will learn about these various science topics through hands on learning investigations in which students will observe and work with materials in our classroom. We will utilize our science time to both learn about the topics we are studying and further support our reading and writing curriculum through reading and writing about our science topics.
Social Studies: In social studies we will be studying our school and city communities, our self and individuals, geography and our families. We will learn about these topics through our own experiences and talking with our classmates. In Kindergarten we strive to teach students of the importance of being a member of a community and ensure they understand the importance of being a good citizen.
